When and how did Kink Weekly get its start?
KinkWeekly came to be because the Owner/Creator of the site, Dexx, wanted there to be a place for veterans and newbies to access practical information regarding everything kink.
It was also important to him to create an online magazine where photographers, writers, and videographers could express themselves and gain exposure. Furthermore, our this week in kink section features current events within the community.
With all this being said, Kink Weekly was born to capture as many aspects of the Kink Community as possible-from news to educational material to creative endeavors. It’s very important to us to create a place where kinksters can come to feel heard, build an online community, and learn.
The first issue went live in June 2015, and we have been continually gaining readership ever since.
What kind of content do you publish on the site? What subjects/topics are featured on the site? How wide is the spectrum of what you feature/want to feature?
We honestly feature anything and everything one could think of when it comes to kink- from all different kinds of play to fetishes to power exchange dynamics.
There really isn’t any educational topic we won’t feature unless it violates our values which are consent, communication, negotiation, and respecting limits/boundaries.
Our erotica, photography, and videography spans a vast range as well. We try to have as many different perspectives and stories shared as possible. There are so many different ways “to kink”, and we want all of our readers to come across material that they like and can relate to.
No matter what type of content we feature on the site, we want to always remain as inclusive as possible, and gain a wide variety of perspectives. We want this to be a place where all readers can learn something new, and experience something that they gravitate towards.
Who are your writers? What kind of backgrounds do they have in kink and sexuality? If someone wanted to write for Kink Weekly what do they need to do?
Our writers live all over the world. Some of our writers live the lifestyle 24/7, others part time. Some are professional writers such as Baadmaster. Other contributors work in kink-related industries. For example, one of our writers named Jenn Masri is a kink therapist. Some work in kink-related sex research such as Galen Fous.
We often conduct interviews with individuals that are in the lifestyle, which allows us to give readers a more thorough look at all different aspects of the Kink Community. Interviews help to eradicate false stereotypes, and put a personal touch on often less talked about topics.
Kink Weekly loves bringing to light topics that aren’t as well-known. We hope that by talking about such topics with experts, these lesser-known topics can become more understood and accepted in the overall community.
Acceptance of everyone in the community is something we strive for and work hard to promote.
To become a writer, simply reach out to us via email (kinkweekly@gmail.com). Submit 1-2 pieces, and send over a bio.
We will then review your work and go from there. We welcome all types of submissions (educational material, erotica, videography, photography, and current events), and are always open to gaining new contributors/perspectives.
What’s the readership like of Kink Weekly?
Our readership spans all over the world. Our current readership is 30,000. Our goal is to reach 80,000.
Does Kink Weekly have a driving mission?
I would say that the overall goals of Kink Weekly are to provide a safe place for people to become informed, to build community, to allow practical knowledge and education to prosper within the community, and for creative expression to be catered to within the Kink Community. We also put a lot of focus on community support, and wish to help any and all people in the community as much as we can through the format of our site-whether it be announcing a collaring or giving someone their first chance to call themselves a published author. We believe strongly in community support, which is how we build each issue. We seriously could not be doing this without everyone’s support and submissions. So thank you!
On twitter recently we posted a request, “to share the WORST “Ultimate Kinky Truth™” statements (aka TWUEism) that are made in the kink community that actually aren’t true” – what do you think the worst TWUEism is in the kink world?
In my opinion, the worst TWUEism is that submissives are weak and do not have a voice. I think this notion needs to be dispelled.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Thank you Kink Academy for conducting this interview. It has been a true pleasure. Kink Weekly wishes you nothing but growth and success!
Please check out our new editions posted every Monday! We greatly appreciate all of your support!
