Social Comparison Dynamics in Bisexual Polyamorous Relationships: Part 1
Researcher Kelly Cookson presents his thoughts and findings on polyamorous relationships in this nine-minute video (part 1 of 3), starting with some surprising statistics (50% of polyamorous relationships are identified as bisexual, 25% to 33% of bisexual relationships are polyamorous). He moves on to define polyamory, using visual aids, and explore whether bisexuality affect the dynamics of polyamory relationships. He identifies and defines romantic triangles, the impact of bisexuality, and the effect of partner-sharing. Polyamory relationships tend to consist of fairly small networks (less than 10 people), Cookson says, and he defines jealousy as a fear of loss or exclusion or a deterioration in the relationship. Lastly, he notes that often feelings of jealousy are based on irrationality.
