Wait wait! Don’t run away! Seriously! In my quest to show people that the Kink Academy website is not *just* for the extremely kinky, I have chosen to watch one of their many health videos. This particular video is free to watch regardless if you are or are not a member and I highly recommend everyone to watch it. I have been getting a pelvic exam since I was 16 every year (sometime 2 -4 times a year when I was having problems). I still learned a LOT from this video and have gained a better understanding of just what the doctor is doing down there. Seriously, watch this video. It will only take 13 minutes of your time.
Megan Andelloux’s video, “what to expect from a pelvic exam“, “is a very detailed step-by-step explanation of a proper pelvic exam. Megan first highlights basic legal issues, and then uses ‘Fanny’ for a clear, thorough description of each portion of the exam (e.g., vulva, vaginal canal, cervix, uterus, rectum) – and underscores the various sensations that a woman may feel during it. Truly a must-see video!” <—- Yes it is!
As someone who has had dozens and dozens of pelvic exams, I didn’t find this video boring at all. Since I have been on birth control pills from the age of 16, it has been a requirement for me to have an exam done yearly in order for me to get a refill of my pills. However, there are women out there who do skip having their exam done because they use over the counter birth control, like condoms. I don’t recommend skipping the opportunity to have an exam done. It has helped save me from cancer so far. For people who have followed us for a few years, I have had 2 cervical biopsies and finally cryosurgery, all of which I have written about on our blog in order to help other women out in the same situation.
Megan’s video is very informative and easy to understand. Something new I learned is that the doctor will lift your hood in order to expose your clit to see if anything has gathered there. I didn’t know that herpes gathers within the hood. Megan used a pelvic model she calls “fanny” to demonstrate what happens during an exam. This model also shows where the uterus and ovaries lie. I always knew why the doctor palpates my stomach and abdomen while inserting 2 fingers inside of me, to check my uterus and ovaries, but watching Megan do it on a model gave me an even clearer picture and understanding as to why they have to do the exam the way they do.
Also, Megan brought up the issue of an anal exam. I have never had an anal exam included as part as my pelvic exam. Never. Like she says in the video, most doctor’s do not perform an anal exam with their pelvic exam. It is something to be considered however, if you have a lot of anal sex, just to make sure everything is healthy in that area. I personally do not have a lot of anal sex, but I do want to move in that direction.
I highly recommend you check out this video, regardless if you are a man/woman, new to pelvic exams or a veteran. I certainly benefited from it and learned something new. It also helped confirm if my exams were being done correctly and gave me food for thought for future exams.
