In my first post I wrote about rope bondage, I mentioned that Onyx and I are fairly new to it and he gets frustrated by rope fairly easily, really he tries to make everything more complicated than it actually is. I mentioned that we were talking about making our rope play a weekly occurrence since, as we all know, practice makes perfect. That hasn’t happened, but we were able to explore some more rope videos and have a rope night tonight after a long hiatus!

First we watched some of the newest videos that have come out.

Rope Bondage Safety covered some of the same things as the Anatomy for BDSM videos but was information that I was happy to have reiterated.

Graydancer‘s Rope Scene Connection & Flow Part 1 and Part 2 are invaluable, I think, when it comes to rope bondage. He’s talking about things that seem really simple and obvious once you know them but are not often taught during rope classes such as how to approach someone you’re playing with, how to connect with the rope bottom during the scene, and how to keep confident during a scene even when you make a mistake. His tips are great for any sort of scene, really, not just rope bondage.

Then we reviewed.

We went back over the Single-Column Tie, Double-column Tie, and Texas Handcuffs to keep those fresh in our memory and get our hands used to tying them. Last time Onyx did most of the tying but this time we both took turns. Once we had both done the basics a couple times to help put them to memory and felt like we knew them fairly well we wanted to do a harness as well.

There are many harnesses to choose from but we chose Lee Harrington‘s Pentagram Harness. We both really enjoy the way that Lee instructs and, being occultists, we were drawn to the title of the harness. It was a little more complex than the first chest harness we tried, but we were easily able to follow along.

Onyx put it on me first while we went through the video and then I attempted to do it from memory. Right at the end I crossed a rope over that I shouldn’t have and got myself confused for a few moments before righting it. I seriously love the way this harness looks and intend to commit it to memory to be able to use it in the future, with acknowledgement to Lee as the designer of it.

I’m really hoping that we can make rope a regular occurrence in our play time because it’s so much fun. Eventually I would love to start playing with different types of rope as well, but I’m trying to take it one step at a time. Onyx still has a little bit of a hang-up regarding rope, which is completely understandable because he thinks that he is all thumbs (even though he’s not), but I’m slowly showing him that with the right practice he can do rope just as well as anyone else.
